What is Covered In This 30 Minute Talk?
Logic Won't Beat Fear
Fear triggers the primitive part of the brain responsible for fight, flight, or freeze responses, diverting blood flow away from the logical, rational prefrontal cortex. This impairs our ability to use logic to overcome fear while riding.
Riding Only Makes it Worse
Traumatic experiences or past accidents create negative brain patterns that hinder learning and cause the brain to resist moving outside of the comfort zone. Attempting to ride through fear may result in two steps forward, three steps back, as the brain tries to protect itself from perceived dangers.
Controlling Everything is Not the Answer
Fear and anxiety cannot be successfully addressed by controlling the external environment or simply pushing oneself to ride through it. To overcome fear, one needs to focus on rewiring the brain at the unconscious level, which requires techniques that work with the unconscious mind, not just conscious efforts to control fear.
